Expect the Unexpected…

When starting a nutrition program what are your expectations?  Most of us are focused on losing weight, or seeing body composition changes, or maybe it’s muscle gain we are after.   But could there be unexpected results and benefits from a good nutrition program?   Absolutely!

I want to share Functional Eating member, Michelle’s story and experience.  Michelle is 42 years old and has Celiac and Hashimoto’s Disease.  When I asked her about training she said. “I’m just a girl with a home gym, nothing special.”   Michelle’s goal was to lose weight and feel good about her body.   When she started with Functional Eating we found she was severely undereating.  Like so many of our clients she didn’t even realize she wasn’t eating enough.

Over the first two weeks eating more food, Michelle noticed a difference in her skin, nails, and hair.  Her nails were stronger and not breaking like they normally did.  Her hair felt thicker and softer and her skin wasn’t dry.   She had no idea these things could be improved by eating more food.

After working with her a couple more weeks and slowly increasing her food she noticed her sleep starting to improve.  Michelle told me from the beginning that she had always struggled to get a good night’s sleep. Once her body was getting enough food she started sleeping better and feeling more rested.   And as a result she was more recovered and had less aches, pains and muscle soreness.

After several months with Functional Eating Michelle has noticed a huge increase in her energy, stamina, and libido.  This was another benefit of eating enough food that she didn’t expect at all, but one she and her husband are very excited about.

Before Michelle started with us her cholesterol was high and her thyroid was low.  She recently had those tests redone and without medication her cholesterol and thyroid numbers are now within the normal range.

One thing that she says all the time is that she feels like she is more in tune with her body and is learning what her body needs.  And learning how her body responds to having enough food has been life changing for her and something that she will use for the rest of her life.

In addition to all of the aforementioned results her main goal of weight loss is also being reached  She’s lost over 20 pounds and her pictures show huge changes in her body composition.  She has also been seeing improvement in her strength and fitness.  Recently she was able to run 2.5 miles without stopping which is a first for her.

Michelle is seeing all these results eating more food than she ever imagined.   She even took a picture of her weight loss graph and compared it to the calories she was eating (You can see that above).

She has also realized that going on vacation doesn’t have to ruin her progress.  During her journey so far she’s had a trip to Vegas, and two to Mexico.  She said never felt deprived or like she couldn’t eat something she wanted on those trips and was able to enjoy them while keeping her goals in mind.   The confidence she has gained in herself and learning how much better her body feels when she eats enough is worth all the money in the world.

Michelle is not an isolated case.  So many of us don’t even realize what our lack of good nutrition is doing to our bodies.  What are you struggling with that might be due to your nutrition?   There is no better time to start focusing on your nutrition.  The best gift you can give your loved ones is a healthy you.   Are you ready to get started?   We are ready to help.
